Bradford Women’s Aid was set up in 1985 to provide safe refuge accommodation and support services for women, with or without children, experiencing domestic abuse.

Today, we provide a range of high quality, effective, practical and emotional support services to women, children and young people, in both community settings and accommodation based settings. We have four refuges across Bradford & Keighley District and a Community Services Team offering outreach, resettlement and children and young people’s support services. We also deliver prevention work to help our Vision to break the cycle of abuse.

We employ a diverse staff team with a broad range of specialist skills, knowledge and experience. All of our services include specialist support for Asian, Eastern European, LGBTQ clients and children, young people and their mum's.

We are both a charitable organisation and a company limited by guarantee and we are governed by a voluntary Board of Trustees.

  • Providing practical, emotional and tailored recovery support in community, refuge and accommodation-based settings
  • Working collaboratively with others to provide holistic packages of support within our communities
  • Developing and delivering preventative programmes within our communities
  • Working in partnership with stakeholders and other agencies to raise awareness, educate, influence and campaign

Diversity & Inclusion

We are committed to, and put non-discriminatory practices in place in both employment and service delivery. Our services and practice reflect our commitment to fair access, inclusive practice, compassion and respect.

Partnership Working

We recognise that we can’t do this work alone and are therefore firm believers in partnership working. We work closely with schools (both secondary and primary), Health Services, Children’s Social Care, Adult Social Services, Legal Services, Early Help Family Hubs, Specialist Service Providers such as Drug, Alcohol and Substance Misuse Support Services, Mental Health Services and other organisations that support women, children and young people.

The most important people to us are our clients, and we place their voices at the heart of everything we do. We constantly strive to develop and improve our services and gather feedback in various tried and tested and innovative ways to help us do this.

Community Integration

We have a commitment to the advancement of raising awareness about Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and domestic abuse through various public, professional and community group meetings, events and campaigns. In addition, our staff are committed to the promotion of BWA services and alternative domestic abuse/VAWG services as appropriate.

We are also committed to the provision of information to other organisations, groups & individuals in order to put domestic abuse & sexual violence on their own agenda and assist the work towards awareness and prevention.

Local, Regional & National Campaigning & Strategy Involvement

Our staff work with the aim of influencing and working in partnership with others to end violence against women and girls, improve service provision and develop multi-agency partnership working. There is a strong commitment to influence local, regional and national agendas, policy & legislation and to provide integrated and effective development at both grass roots and strategic levels.
